Set in a far away land, composed of two islands, Dread and Tamed Land. Six hundred years ago, the King allowed the Nightweavers to settle but, over time, they increased in number and started to dominate the human population.
The story is filled with elemental magic and twists that keep the reader drawn into the story. Many human families took to ships and became pirates in order to survive. Six hundred years later, one family, the Oberonsm father, mother, three brothers and three sisters, find themselves are attacked by a Nightweaver ship.
Rumours are rife that they are cannibals and use the humans they capture as slaves - and livestock. So, not only are they hated but also feared and in this particular attack, there is hand-to-hand fighting with cutlasses, daggers and pistols.
However, they are overcome, resulting in the death of the oldest brother, captured and shackled. The family are taken back to Dread where they are to be either hanged or sold into slavery.
Gray is an exceptionally descriptive writer and uses the unusual format of writing the novel in the present tense and using the first person singular, from the perspective of one of the sisters, Aster.
As the story unfolds, you will discover that Gray is also a terrific storyteller. Nightweaver is agreat page turner and well written, It will most likely appeal readers who enjoy fantasy novels,
