Kaldoras

While Kaldoras is a Young Adult Fantasy but, apart from the strange names of the places, the use of bubbledoors, the mixture of immortals and mortals, the Shadow Wolf and a few more otherworldly things, it is really a love story, actually ti is more than that.

Beginning with a full-page, strong warning from the author. "Do not read this book if you have not read the previous books in the series." I had not read them, but that fact did not take away any of the enjoyment of reading this book.

The story features many conversations between the cast of characters, so it is not an action-packed, fast-paced book. It starts with the two main protagonists, Alexandria, known as Alex, and her boyfriend, Kaiden. They were preparing to visit friends for Kaldoras. They decided to exchange Kaldoras gifts before they departed and this was where Alex revealed all, when she handed Kaiden his present, and said 'Merry Christ - er, Kaldoras, Kaiden' which suddenly put everything into perspective for me.

They discussed their friends and what had happened to them all, in the recent past, after the war ended. This discussion helps understand the history of the story.

When they arrived at the dinner party, we are introduced to some of the other characters. At the end of the party, Alex grabbed a wedge of the Kaldoras cake, put it on a plate and sneaked out of the party to the library. There, she approached an art work hanging on the wall of a dimly lit corridor and stepped through the painting into another world...

This book is so well written by the Australian writer, I found it difficult to put it down and could hardly wait for my next reading session.

I am pleased to note there were zero typos, which is quite unusual in these times. However, the author did use one lazy-speak Americanisms. The word gotten was used twice. Maybe you can spot it, too, when you read the book. As previously noted in other reviews, the only time gotten should be used is in the word forgotten.

Even if you are not a fan of the Fantasy genre, I highly recommend reading Kaldoras. It is a love story and a bit of a tear jerker, too, so be prepared with the tissues.
