Bird in the Herd

Hidden

by Larissa Ferenchuk

Illustrated by Fiona West

Published by EK Books
ISBN  9781921497100

A delightfully presented and illustrated, story showing taking the first steps to making connection when a little girl feels that no-one in the homes next door and down the street notice her.

Getting the gist of the story over a few introductory pages we see how lonely she feels and can't understand why the neighbours who make so much clatter with their coffee cups going to work just don't know she s there.

She wonders what can she do about this. There are people everywhere but they are not talking to one another. She asks her mum who says they are all busy, but what does that really mean?

Thinking about what she can do, she decides to write a letter to everyone with help from her mum inviting them over to come and pick figs from their tree. This is a positive story showing how to connect, being the one to initiate the connections and seeing the warm and happy results as they all continue conversations after their most enjoyable afternoon. The friendly connections and invitations continue and she is no longer hidden.

An ideal picture book for showing young readers that there is something they can do to make a difference and improve relationships and have, fun!
