If you enjoy solving mysteries, or if you like reading about solving mysteries, Detective Beans stories are ideal for ages 8 - 12 years.

Adventures in Cat Town is the second graphic novel about Detective Beans. Its cute, it's funny, filled with a short stories, usually four pages each as Detective Beans goes in search of cases to solve.

He is quite diligent in the way in which he goes finding these cases and makes excuses when he finds himself in a sticky situation, like not able to take a car he wants for a test drive.

The cute, expressive illustration tell just as much of the stories as the words.

Detective Beans is always busy, whether he is playing scrabble going to the beach or having sleepovers, going to school, but somehow he finds the time to solve a myriad of mysteries. Some of these mysteries are really important like which pigeon stole King Chip, the Eggy Bread mystery, a lost bag in the park, the postman and of course when Detective Bean gets an accountant.

A substantial book with thirty-two stories and a funny introduction, It is  the type of book that you can pick up and read a few pages and come back to it any time and read a new adventure. It would make a good gift for kids who love a good laugh.

The author

Li Chen was born in Beijing, China, and moved to New Zealand when she was five (with her parents, not as a solo child explorer, I don't think that's allowed). She's always loved drawing and has been working as a full-time comic artist since 2012. Detective Beans and the Case of the Missing Hat is her first graphic novel. When she's not drawing, Li likes to hang out with her cats or go on really long walks.
