I Love You: Recipes from the Heart

By Pamela Anderson

Published by Hachette Australia

ISBN 9781408731703

Model, actor and activist, Pamela Anderson shares recipes for food that she cooks for her family in a new cookbook, I Love You, Recipes from the Heart. Initially the cookbook started out as a few recipe cards to give to her sons as they moved out of home, to help them make their favourite food in their own homes with their new partners.

It is filled with a variety of her vegetarian / vegan culinary journey using plant based ingredients and dairy alternatives blending her enjoyment of vegetable cooking.

A substantial hard cover book, it is beautifully designed, with many carefully curated natural glamour photos of Anderson showing her affinity with nature, in the countryside and the surrounds where she lives. Notes and thoughts are included about her connection with her environment and living a peaceful, calm life.

Getting back to the recipes, there are good ideas for healthier eating, but there are some unfamiliar ingredients to Australian readers, including one that is not available as it deemed as an unacceptable ingredient by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).  Bear in mind that American names are used for the ingredients as the author lives in the USA, For example the name arugula is used for rocket leaves, cilantro for coriander and so on, so be prepared to look up some of these when  preparing to make them.

Recipes include chicory dandelion coffee, teas, breakfasts, picnics, lovely salads, hearty soups, afternoon teas, light meals for summer and warming ones for winter, and array of desserts. The minty pea-potato pierogis look good, fiery kale chips for snacking, and there is a handy list of kitchen tools needed.

There are some terrific recipes for vegetarian / vegan cooks or for people who want to cook more plant based food, but many include quite a lot of sugar and high carbs and some processed food.

Usually I would try several recipes for writing a review, but I was unable to do so this time as I could not find a recipe that would fit in with my permanent low carb, no sugar healthy eating.

However the recipes seem quite delicious and  I am sure many people will probably find, I Love You, Recipes from the Heart helpful.
