Take one hip Grandad, oops Granbad who is passionate about the environment and saving the Greater Gliders, a good story and complimentary colourful illustrations and you have a fun educational picture book. Greater Gliders are an endangered marsupials that live in the forests in Eastern Australia.
This is an entertaining way for children to learn about their environment with funny Granbad who does things his own way. He doesn't restrict his grandchildren's screen time, nor fuss over the things their parents insist on.
Granbad as the family calls him, because he is always breaking the rules, but for good reasons. His grandchildren love him and his ways, even if sometimes he use naughty words (not that naughty). He explains the importance of making a stand in order to get things done, or in this case saved.
The story is humorous, yet meaningful as Granbad's, his family and friends realise that if they don't do what they can to save the forests the Greater Gliders won't survive. Things don't always go to plan, at first the kids are sad and even think they could have done more, but as Grandbad shows being persistent helps.
There is an explanation of the Greater Gliders at the end of the story.
The illustrations work in close harmony with the story, both Penny Tangey and Peter Baldwin are talented author and illustrator. This book would be suitable for children from ages four to eight years. We really enjoyed this book it is an ideal everyday read or for giving as a gift.
