A Feather On A Wing

by Maria Speyer
Published by University of Queensland Press (UQP)
ISBN 9780702263255

This is a beautifully illustrated picture book for younger children with a heartwarming story.

Maria Speyer, tells the story through her gentle words and thoughtful illustrations of a little girl who is afraid of the dark. As we read each page, her older sister gives her words of comfort, telling her, she's not alone.

The sister gives her several examples of how she could imagine herself to be when she feels alone in the dark, to give her reassurance and comfort.

One of the things she says, imagine you are a flower amongst other flowers that form a daisy chain, or a raindrop in a shower. The older sister also tells of her the stories they can tell each other and this continues until she reminders her younger sister that they are in this together.

The melody and words for a Feather on a Wing are also included, it is an ideal comforting  and imaginative bed time story book for children.

Maria Speyer is a Danish born artist, illustrator and author who now lives in Sydney with her husband and daughters.
