Operation Spider

Operation Spider is a Citizen Science Project being run by the Barbara Hardy Centre at UniSA with 891 ABC Adelaide, the SA Museum and the Department for Environment and Natural Resources.

The Festival of the Spider

Go to the South Australian Museum on the morning of 1 September for the launch of Biodiversity Month and the launch of Operation Spider. At the launch there willl be spider talks and spider presentations, and scientists and spiders to meet. Try a spider (drink) or make a spider, and 891 ABC Adelaide will be broadcasting live with Matthew Abraham and David Bevan.

Poetry Competition

There is a a poetry competition in conjunction with Operation Spider with five age-group categories to enter (early years, primary, middle, secondary and 18+) for eight-lined poems about spiders. There are great prizes so start writing and stay tuned! Full entry details are available at: abc.net.au/adelaide/operation

Resources for Teachers

As part of the Operation Spider program, the Barbara Hardy Centre at UniSA have put together a broad range of educational materials for primary and middle school classes. They have developed a teaching sequence and support materials to make it easy and interesting for classes to be involved. Find out more and begin projects now: unisa.edu.au/barbarahardy/teachers

Participate on radio - community survey and questionnaire

For six weeks beginning 1 September, ABC Local Radio in South Australia. there will be a state-wide survey in which all South Australians can participate and send in data about spiders via an online questionnaire. You will be able to send in information about the spiders you see and about your attitudes towards spiders. You’ll be able to log-in at: abc.net.au/adelaide/operation
